Outing to California Poppy Preserve – May 1st 2010

We are going to follow up Children’s Day celebration on April 18th, with an outing to California Poppy Preserve on May1, Spring Festival (Bahar Bayrami)

Every spring this wonderful place comes alive with blooming poppies as far as the eye can see. This is a California spectacular from mid-Feb to mid-May.

This can be wonderful outing for families, singles, young, old, anyone loving nature.

California Poppy Reserve is near Lancaster, ~80 miles from LA. So plan on carpooling (you can meet others and carpool at the indicated park and ride lot, free, at Newhall exit, just past FWY 14 split from 5.

We will have a picnic together from 12-2 PM and take walks freely among the poppies in groups as we please. Near the visitor center, we will have signs for the area we will be getting together for the picnic. Bring your food. We will bring some drinks.

It is usually windy, so bring some warm clothes.
It is very SUNNY, so bring sunscreen, protection.
Weekends there can be a lot of traffic, so long line to get in ☹ ; be patient and plan accordingly. If you can come earlier and take a hike then you will avoid the traffic.
$8 to park. Or a spot on the highway and some walk ☹.
